Iran-linked cyberattacks target U.S. critical infrastructure
Iranian cyber operations, linked to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and the Ministry of Intelligence (MOIS), have targeted various sectors of United States infrastructure. These operations include disruptions to water supplies and the healthcare sector, with ongoing threats directed at energy and telecommunications systems.
Specific groups, such as the Handala Hack Team, have claimed responsibility for seizing personal information of U.S. servicemembers in the Middle East, including data related to F-35 fighter jets. The group also reportedly hacked the email of the FBI Director.
In March, a significant cyberattack reportedly wiped between 80,000 and 200,000 devices, leading to hospital surgery delays. Additionally, coordinated attacks in July resulted in water advisories for several American towns.
