Iran maintained JCPOA compliance for one year after US withdrawal

Following the United States' withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on May 8, 2018, Iran maintained compliance with the nuclear agreement for an additional year. Despite the reintroduction of sanctions under a “maximum pressure” policy by the Trump administration, Tehran did not immediately expel inspectors or accelerate its nuclear program.

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) repeatedly certified that Iran was meeting its commitments during this period. Specifically, Iran maintained its uranium enrichment rate at 3.67%, kept its stockpiles below 300 kilograms, and continued to allow IAEA inspectors access to its nuclear facilities.
