Iran man spared from execution after family grants pardon

A man in Iran has been spared from execution after the parents of his victim decided to grant him a pardon at the final hour. The 30-year-old man had been sentenced to death for the suffocation of his wife, an incident he claimed occurred during an argument fueled by his unemployment and subsequent domestic tension.

The victim's parents had initially pursued retribution (qisas). However, they arrived at the execution office just before the scheduled sentence to withdraw their demand for death. The mother stated that her decision was influenced by a dream experienced by her 11-year-old daughter, which she interpreted as a spiritual sign to forgive the man, noting that he had previously been a well-regarded member of the family.
