Iran military infrastructure and leadership targeted in Operation Epic Fury
During the initial phases of Operation Epic Fury, military strikes targeted Iranian command centers, air-defense facilities, missile positions, and naval infrastructure. Reports indicate that Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, was killed and a significant portion of the senior military leadership was removed from the chain of command.
The naval conflict resulted in heavy losses for Iran; CENTCOM reported that over 155 Iranian vessels were damaged or destroyed, including all 11 of its submarines. The United States administration stated that by the end of the first month, Iran’s navy had been destroyed and its air force was in ruins.
The conflict has created a permacrisis in the Gulf region, impacting its previous status as a fast-growing economic and tourism hub. The blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and the exchange of ballistic missiles and drones have disrupted the stability that had previously seen high growth in regional tourism and aviation connectivity.
