Iran military network imported $2 billion in hardware since 2025
An investigation has revealed that Iran utilizes a secret network of more than 5,000 agencies to import at least $2 billion in military hardware, explosives, and heavy-duty trucks since January 2025. These entities, which often use names beginning with “MOD” to imply links to the Ministry of Defense, share a single registration address with Iran’s Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics (MODAFL).
The network has successfully evaded Western sanctions and US naval blockades by utilizing land, sea, and air routes. Shipping data indicates that much of the hardware originates from China, Russia, and Germany. Key items identified include rocket propellants, detonators, aircraft components, and heavy trucks capable of serving as mobile missile launchers.
Many of these agencies are tied to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and bonyads, which are business conglomerates controlled by Iran’s elite. To bypass direct currency transfers, the network reportedly uses intermediaries abroad to settle transactions using funds from oil sales. The investigation highlights how these channels allow Iran to replenish its missile and drone arsenals despite international restrictions.
