Iran Ministry of Education clarifies mobile phone use in schools

Officials from Iran’s Supreme Council of Education have clarified that upcoming revisions to school executive regulations do not grant unrestricted access to mobile phones. Instead, the focus is on the intelligent and responsible management of technology to enhance the educational process.

According to Dr. Kafash, Deputy Secretary-General of the Supreme Council, the use of electronic devices, including tablets and computers, is permitted as educational tools if approved by the Ministry of Education and the respective school council. The decision regarding whether students may bring mobile phones to school, where they should be stored, and the permitted times and locations for use rests with the individual school council.

School councils, composed of principals, deputies, parent-teacher association representatives, and student council members, are responsible for setting these local rules and determining penalties for violations. Furthermore, mobile phone use within the classroom is only allowed for specific educational activities aligned with the curriculum, subject to the teacher’s approval and limited to specific timeframes.
