Iran Ministry of Interior addresses rising inflation and infrastructure repair

The Iranian Ministry of Interior has expressed serious concern regarding rapid inflation and rising prices for essential goods. Spokesperson Ali Zeiniwand stated that the government is prioritizing the repair of residential buildings, homes, and public service centers, such as police stations, over non-essential projects. This follows damage to approximately 75,000 homes and various bridges and infrastructure in provinces including Hormozgan and Golestan.

While officials attribute record inflation to decades of Western sanctions, local reports indicate drastic price increases, including the cost of bread doubling within a single week. Despite these economic pressures and a U.S. maritime blockade aimed at curbing oil exports, Zeiniwand dismissed rumors of product shortages as enemy propaganda, asserting that goods remain available. To facilitate imports, the government has instructed customs authorities to allow private traders with their own storage capacity to import goods.

On the diplomatic front, Iran is pursuing mediation to resolve ongoing issues and return to the Islamabad agreement, seeking for the other party to fulfill its promises.
