Iran Ministry of Science issues new university conduct and dress code guidelines
The Iranian Ministry of Science, Research and Technology has issued new guidelines titled ‘Guide to Grooming, Ethics, and Academic Conduct’ to university presidents and heads of higher education, research, and technology institutions. Seyyed Ahmadreza Khazari, advisor to the Minister, emphasized the necessity of informing the academic community, particularly incoming students, about these regulations.
The directive mandates that universities communicate these rules during the registration process and display appropriate environmental advertisements in public campus spaces. The guidelines require men and women to wear clothing that is described as modest, neat, simple, and appropriate for a scientific environment.
Beyond dress codes, the document outlines principles for professional behavior, emphasizing dignity, honesty, and justice. It aims to prevent tension and conflict by establishing a framework for mutual respect regardless of gender, age, ethnicity, or social background. The guidelines also prohibit insults, threats, harassment, and violence, while demanding integrity in education, research, and administrative affairs to prevent fraud and the misuse of trust.
