Iran mobile market faces massive price surges and instability

The Iranian mobile phone market is experiencing a severe crisis characterized by massive price surges and market instability. Member of the Parliament's Industry and Mines Commission, Reza Taghipour, has criticized sellers for using unrealistic exchange rates, noting that some calculate prices based on a hypothetical dollar rate of 400,000 Tomans.

Reports indicate that smartphone prices have increased by as much as 300% to 320% within a single year, significantly outpacing the national inflation rate. This surge affects various brands, including Samsung, Apple, and Xiaomi. For instance, mid-range models that were previously affordable have seen dramatic price hikes, and the cost of repairs has risen to levels comparable to the original purchase price of older models.

Experts attribute this volatility to improper import decisions, supply chain disruptions, and a lack of transparent monitoring systems. While the registry system has helped curb smuggling, issues such as illegal warehousing and hoarding continue to impact consumer rights and market stability.
