Iran MP calls for budget amendment to raise wages amid high inflation
Iranian Member of Parliament Hossein Emamirad has called for a budget amendment to address rising living costs and inflation. Citing data from the Statistical Center of Iran, Emamirad noted that annual inflation reached 69.9 percent in August 2024, with point-to-point inflation hitting 89 percent.
Emamirad argued that the wage increases determined at the beginning of the year have lost significant purchasing power due to rising prices for goods, services, and energy. He suggested that wages should not only be adjusted once a year but could potentially be increased twice annually, similar to practices in other countries, to better reflect real economic conditions and protect the livelihoods of employees, workers, and retirees.
