Iran national teams prepare for 2026 Nagoya Asian Games

Iran's national sports teams are preparing for the 2026 Asian Games in Nagoya, though the football program faces significant logistical challenges. Head coach Hossein Abdi reported that the team's preparation camp was disrupted due to disputes with domestic clubs. Several clubs, including Tractor SC, have declined to release players due to overlapping schedules with the Persian Gulf Pro League and Asian competitions. This conflict led to a shortage of available players for training sessions.

Despite these hurdles, the final roster for the men's under-23 football team has been announced. They are placed in Group B and are scheduled to face the United Arab Emirates, China, and North Korea during the group stages.

In basketball, the Iranian national team has also finalized its schedule for the Nagoya games. Competing in Group B, Iran will face Qatar, Chinese Taipei, and Jordan, with matches scheduled between September 10 and September 15, 2026.
