Iran secures Mexico visas, still awaiting US clearance for 2026 World Cup

Iran’s national football team has received all the visas required to travel to Mexico, where it will base its final preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The delegation is set to depart for Tijuana on 6 June, after moving its training camp from Arizona to the Mexican border city. While entry to Mexico is confirmed, the team still lacks visas to enter the United States for its group‑stage matches, which are scheduled in Los Angeles (against New Zealand on 15 June and Belgium on 21 June) and Seattle (against Egypt on 26 June). FIFA President Gianni Infantino has guaranteed Iran’s participation, and U.S. President Donald Trump has said a solution will be found if FIFA backs the team. The squad, currently training in Turkey, will also play a friendly against Mali before heading to North America. In a separate development, Iran has excluded its top player from the World Cup squad over alleged disloyalty to the regime.
