Iranian Parliament moves to reform nursing rights and livelihoods

The Iranian Parliament is moving to support nursing rights through legislative reforms and improved livelihood measures. Members of the Health and Treatment Commission have expressed support for the Ministry of Labor and the Social Security Organization’s plan to recruit 4,000 nurses to address staffing shortages and reduce workloads.

Legislators are pushing for the reform of Article 106 of the Civil Service Management Law to address economic grievances. While recent adjustments to overtime pay and nursing service tariffs have provided some relief, officials noted that high inflation continues to undermine the purchasing power of healthcare workers. To address these systemic issues, a special committee led by Seyyed Mohammad Jamalian has been formed, comprising representatives from the Health Ministry, the Plan and Budget Organization, and the Administrative and Recruitment Organization, to monitor the implementation of laws and investigate mismanagement regarding nursing staff.

Additionally, the Ministry of Health has highlighted structural support initiatives, including the ‘Zist-e Parastar’ plan, aimed at ensuring nursing service tariffs are maintained and redistributed effectively, particularly in border and southern provinces.
