Iran population aging projections reach 30 percent by 1430

Projections indicate that more than 30 percent of Iran's population will be over the age of 60 by the year 1430 (Persian calendar). Majid Fouladian, Deputy Minister and head of the National Council of the Elderly, emphasized the urgent need for infrastructure development and strategic planning to manage this demographic shift.

To address this transition, officials are focusing on the development of a ‘silver economy’ and a care-based economy. Alborz Province has been identified as a potential pilot region for leading elderly-related policy and planning initiatives.

A key component of the national strategy is the creation of an ‘elderly identity card’ via a national dashboard. This project, which will begin as a pilot in a small town, aims to systematically record and manage data for individuals over 60. The registry will include information on economic status, lifestyle, consumption patterns, diseases, and medications to enable more precise policymaking and targeted services for high-risk seniors.
