Iran President Pezeshkian to attend BRICS Summit in India
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian is set to visit New Delhi in September 2026 to attend the 18th BRICS Summit. The summit, hosted by India under the theme 'Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability', follows India's assumption of the BRICS chairmanship from Brazil earlier this year.
The visit is viewed as a significant diplomatic opportunity to strengthen bilateral ties between Tehran and New Delhi. Discussions are expected to cover economic cooperation, regional stability in West Asia, and connectivity projects such as the Chabahar Port. This follows previous engagements between President Pezeshkian and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, including a meeting in Kazan, Russia, in October 2024.
In a separate gesture, President Pezeshkian extended official Independence Day wishes to India, describing the historical and cultural ties between the two nations as a valuable asset for future relations. The upcoming summit comes at a time of heightened regional tension, with Iranian officials previously noting that India could play a constructive role in de-escalating conflicts in West Asia.
