Iran protests to Norway over unauthorized Starlink use
Iran has summoned the Norwegian ambassador to Tehran to issue an official protest regarding the unauthorized operation of Starlink satellite internet services within its territory. Mohammad Hassannejad Pirkoohi, a director general at the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, met with Ambassador Paal Bjornestad to express concerns over the service's use.
Tehran accuses the United States and Israel of systematically exploiting Starlink—a satellite network owned by Elon Musk’s SpaceX—to advance “interfering agendas” against Iran. The Iranian government claims that Norway has failed to meet its legal obligations as a registering state for Starlink services with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
According to Iranian officials, recent decisions by the ITU’s Radio Regulations Board have required Norway to take necessary measures to prevent unauthorized Starlink transmissions in Iran. Tehran maintains that Norway has ignored repeated requests to halt activities that it views as threats to its national security and territorial sovereignty.
