Iran ranks eighth globally in barley cultivation area

Iran currently ranks eighth globally in barley cultivation area and eleventh in total production volume. According to Majid Anjafi, Deputy for Agricultural Affairs at the Ministry of Jihad-e-Agriculture, barley imports decreased during the first half of the year.

Efforts to strengthen the agricultural sector include the development of seed production, the introduction of varieties tailored to different climates, and the implementation of participatory farming. To date, 169 wheat varieties have been introduced, featuring traits such as salinity resistance, drought tolerance, and high yield. Additionally, 74 varieties of barley are being cultivated across the country, supported by over 1,000 participatory farms.
