Iran reaffirms NPT rights and says foreign embassies operate normally in Tehran

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Bäqaí told a press conference in Tehran on 27 July 2026 that every Nuclear Non‑Proliferation Treaty (NPT) member has the right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes, and that U.S. actions are hindering this right. He emphasized the regional right to acquire nuclear technology for local development and referenced the recent cease‑fire agreement mediated by Pakistan and the peace memorandum signed earlier in the year.

Bäqaí also addressed rumors about the status of foreign diplomatic missions in Iran, confirming that embassies, particularly those of European countries, continue their normal activities. He noted that the French ambassador had been summoned and reminded France to refrain from citing “human‑rights” or “public support” as reasons to intervene in Iran’s internal affairs. The ministry rejected claims of any restrictions on diplomatic traffic during the summer months.
