Iran rejects direct talks with Trump administration until 2029

Iran has signaled a refusal to engage in direct negotiations with the United States under the administration of Donald Trump, indicating a strategy to wait until his term concludes in 2029.

Majid Shakeri, an adviser to Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, advocated for a long-term strategic approach described as managing a state of “neither war nor peace.” Shakeri argued that seeking an agreement with Trump would only benefit the US president politically while weakening Tehran’s position. He suggested that maintaining ambiguity and patience is a more effective path to victory than choosing between open confrontation or surrender.

Confirming this stance, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei stated that no direct negotiations are currently occurring between the two nations. He noted that existing communications are limited to messages passed through intermediaries, and that Tehran is currently focused on discussions with Oman regarding shipping matters.
