Iran condemns U.S. use of 9/11 anniversary to justify military conflict
On the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, tensions between the United States and Iran have escalated. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Bagaei condemned U.S. efforts to use the 9/11 commemorations to justify military action against Iran, calling such arguments “absolutely absurd.” Bagaei further asserted that the perpetrators of the 2001 attacks were not Iranian and criticized the “war on terror” for causing widespread devastation in Afghanistan and Iraq.
At a ceremony at the Pentagon, U.S. President Donald Trump defended the ongoing military campaign against Iran, vowing that the United States would ensure the country never acquires nuclear weapons. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth also addressed the anniversary, stating that the U.S. would continue to send terrorists “to hell.”
The conflict, which began on February 28, involves military strikes by the U.S. and Israel against Iranian nuclear, military, and civilian facilities. Reports indicate that the hostilities have resulted in over 3,400 deaths, including high-ranking officials and Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. While regional efforts for a peace agreement continue, the U.S. maintains a naval blockade against Iran.
