Iran reports 5,000 deaths from U.S.-Israeli strikes amid rising tensions
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi stated that over 5,000 people, including hundreds of women and children, have been killed in military strikes by the United States and Israel against Iran. According to reports, these strikes targeted residential areas, schools, hospitals, energy facilities, and transportation infrastructure. Araghchi also characterized the deaths of senior political and military officials, including former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, as violations of international law.
In response to threats from U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the potential destruction of the country, a grassroots movement titled ‘Sacrifice for Iran’ has emerged. In Tehran, civilian volunteers, including many women, are participating in military training at Imam Hossein Square. This training includes instruction on firearms, small drones, anti-tank missiles, and tactical medical aid as part of a ‘people’s defense’ initiative.
Tensions remain high following joint U.S.-Israeli strikes on Tehran and other cities in February. While a memorandum of understanding was signed in June to cease hostilities across all fronts, including Lebanon, the status of peace negotiations remains uncertain due to recent escalations.
