Iran reshuffles security leadership under Mojtaba Khamenei

Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has implemented a major reshuffle of the nation's top security leadership, signaling a shift toward a more aggressive and confrontational military doctrine. The appointments focus on veteran figures from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to prepare the Islamic Republic for long-term confrontation with the United States.

Key appointments include Mohsen Rezaei, a former IRGC commander, as Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, and Ahmad Vahidi, who has been directed to maintain “maximum deterrence” and readiness for “massive offensive operations.” This new strategic direction moves away from the previous approach of indirect engagement through proxies, favoring instead a posture of aggression and preemptive strikes.

The leadership changes follow recent military conflicts involving the US and Israel. With the expiration of a 60-day diplomatic agreement with the US, both sides appear to be preparing for renewed hostilities. The Iranian regime has declared previous diplomatic understandings null and void, reflecting deep-seated mistrust of US policy.
