Iran reviews U.S. response to diplomatic proposal

Kazem Gharibabadi, the Deputy for Legal and International Affairs at the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that Tehran is currently finalizing its response to American views regarding a proposal presented in New York. The response will be communicated through mediators, including Qatar, once internal deliberations are complete.

Gharibabadi emphasized that while Iran remains open to diplomacy and has not shied away from dialogue, any further political flexibility is contingent upon the United States fulfilling its previous commitments. He noted that the return to normal conditions and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz depend on Washington adhering to its obligations, specifically citing the Islamabad understanding.

He further asserted that Iran has not violated its own commitments and that the U.S. must take compensatory steps. While expressing readiness for negotiation, he also stated that Iran's readiness for self-defense is equal to its readiness for diplomacy.
