Iran Says Gaza War Will Be Raised in US Talks as Trump Seeks Funding for Iran Conflict
Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi told Hamas official Basem Naim that Tehran will raise the Gaza war issue in its negotiations with the United States, stressing that Iran’s support for Hamas and the Palestinian cause is not a bargaining chip. The comment came amid nuclear and security talks between Tehran and Washington that were opened by a June 17 memorandum signed by President Donald Trump and Iranian president Masoud Pezeshkian, establishing a 60‑day dialogue on military de‑escalation, Hormuz reopening, frozen assets and limits on Iran’s nuclear program.
At the same time, President Trump asked Congress for about $87 billion to fund an “Iran war.” Analysts note the proposal faces steep opposition, with roughly 36 % of Americans supporting the conflict and nearly 60 % opposing it, creating a difficult political environment ahead of the 2026 midterm elections. Congressional committees are expected to debate the funding heavily, and it remains uncertain whether Trump can push the measure through.
