Iran says U.S. is obstructing Hormuz transit agreement with Oman

Iran and Oman have reached a proposed framework to establish a joint temporary navigational corridor and a project to clear mines within the Strait of Hormuz. However, Iranian officials state that the implementation of this agreement is contingent upon the United States meeting specific commitments outlined in a previous memorandum of understanding.

According to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and Iranian officials, these conditions include the cessation of hostilities on all fronts, the lifting of U.S. blockades on Iranian ports and vessels, and the end of sanctions against the Islamic Republic. Iran also seeks to collect fees for navigation, security, and environmental services within the strait, a move reportedly opposed by the United States.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global economic artery, typically handling approximately 20% of the world's crude oil. Recent transit data shows a significant decline in activity, with only five commodity vessels passing through the strait on Tuesday compared to a 10-day average of 15. In response to the maritime uncertainty, international benchmark Brent crude prices fell below $90 per barrel.
