Iran seeks strategy to counter new US sanctions

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammed Baqer Qalibaf has called for a strategic plan to overcome what he termed ‘unjust sanctions’ following announcements of increased economic pressure from the United States.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that new, severe sanctions against Iran would be detailed this coming Monday. Bessent suggested these economic measures might reduce the necessity for further large-scale military operations.

Addressing business representatives in Baghdad, Qalibaf accused the US and Israel of conducting economic and cognitive warfare, arguing that they have turned to these methods because they cannot prevail in direct military conflict. He emphasized the link between economic growth and national security, suggesting that Iran and Iraq should strengthen economic ties and utilize their national currencies for trade to decrease reliance on the US dollar.
