Iran sees 40% surge in demand for second-hand appliances

Demand for second-hand household appliances in Iran has increased by at least 40% over the past year. This shift is driven by high inflation in the appliance sector, which has outpaced general inflation by 1.3 percentage points monthly, and a 120% surge in exchange rates.

As new products become unaffordable, consumers are turning to border markets such as Baneh, Sogez, Astara, and others to import used or stock items from neighboring countries.

Simultaneously, the repair market is struggling. The cost of spare parts and maintenance services has risen significantly, leading to a 35% decrease in demand for support services over the last five months. Many consumers are postponing repairs due to high costs or are opting for second-hand replacements instead. There are also concerns regarding the influx of low-quality, inexpensive spare parts, which increase energy consumption and reduce public trust in repair services.
