Iran Seizes Greek Tanker Kavomaleas in Strait of Hormuz

Iranian forces captured the Greek‑owned oil tanker Kavomaleas, operated by Dynacom and owned by shipowner George Prokopios, after the vessel was hit by two projectiles while sailing near the Omani coast. The attack caused a fire on board, forced the crew to abandon the ship and created an oil slick at the scene.

The tanker was on its way to load more than 500,000 barrels of crude in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran later towed the damaged vessel in Iranian waters. Dynacom has repeatedly sent tankers through the Hormuz strait despite heightened risks following the United States and Israel's military actions against Iran, completing at least ten passages since February.

The incident highlights the increasing danger to international shipping in a key oil‑transport corridor and Iran's willingness to intervene against foreign vessels operating in contested waters.
