Iran Reports $18 Billion Oil Sales Amid US‑Iran Conflict and Hormuz Tensions

Iran’s oil ministry said it sold $11.5 billion of crude during the war phase that began on 28 February 2026 and a further $6.5 billion during the subsequent cease‑fire, bringing total revenue to $18 billion. The ministry added that the sales represent more than 60 percent of the oil income forecast in Iran’s annual budget, despite U.S. sanctions and a naval blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

The oil shipments continued via alternative routes such as the Red Sea and the Bab al‑Mandeb strait, with China identified as a dominant buyer. At the same time, global oil prices fell sharply after the United States paused its air strikes on Iran. Brent crude dropped over 5 percent to about $92 per barrel and West Texas Intermediate slipped to roughly $85 per barrel.

Financial markets showed little immediate reaction to the oil‑revenue news. Bitcoin traded near $64,354 and rose only 0.4 percent, while other risk assets remained largely unchanged, indicating that the headline did not move crypto liquidity directly.
