Iran Sends Formal Warning to UN Over Israeli Threats to Supreme Leader

Iran’s mission to the United Nations submitted a letter to the UN Secretary‑General, Security Council President and General Assembly President condemning recent remarks by Israeli officials that threatened the country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei. The Iranian delegation described the statements as state terrorism and a breach of the UN Charter, international human‑rights law and humanitarian principles, arguing that targeting senior officials of a UN member state violates international law.

The letter urged the Security Council to explicitly condemn any threats or acts of terrorism against state officials, to hold responsible parties accountable, and warned that any hostile Israeli action would meet a decisive response. Iran reaffirmed its right to self‑defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter and called for the Council to act against what it termed a “climate of impunity.”
