Iran Supreme Labor Council meets to discuss worker wage revisions
Hassan Sadeghi, head of the Veterans of the Labor Community Union, has commented on a recent meeting of the Supreme Labor Council regarding the revision of workers' wages. He noted that the previous taboo of not holding meetings to review wages and salaries has been broken.
While no final decision was reached during the meeting, reports suggest that the outcomes are promising. The proposed process involves sending decisions to the government for approval before they are finalized, a procedure that Sadeghi noted is unprecedented. There are unconfirmed reports that a fixed amount could be added to all wage levels and worker vouchers, though the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labour, and Social Welfare has yet to officially announce this.
Sadeghi highlighted a severe decline in purchasing power, stating that while the wage increases at the start of the year covered approximately 23 days of needs, current purchasing power has dropped to less than 10 days due to inflation. He emphasized that controlling inflation—driven by factors such as currency issues, energy prices, and sanctions—is essential for improving workers' livelihoods.
