Iran targets 2 million tourists and 6 billion euros in revenue by 2028

Seyyed Reza Salehi Amiri, the Minister of Cultural Heritage, Tourism and Handicrafts, has outlined strategic goals to transform Iran's tourism sector. A primary objective is to attract 2 million tourists by 2028, aiming to generate 6 billion euros in revenue. The plan places a heavy emphasis on strengthening medical tourism and improving national infrastructure to meet international standards.

To support these goals, the government is increasing facilities in the sector to over 50 trillion tomans and creating an economic and investment center within the Ministry. Currently, approximately 3,800 tourism projects are underway, all of which are managed by the private sector. The administration intends to focus on policymaking, issuing permits, and removing obstacles rather than intervening in private enterprises.

Additionally, the Minister highlighted President Masoud Pezeshkian’s commitment to reconciling with the Iranian diaspora, aiming to create a more welcoming environment for Iranians living abroad. The ministry also aims to protect cultural heritage and expand the handicraft economy to bolster national stability and economic growth.
