Iran to Hold Massive Public Funeral for Assassinated Supreme Leader Jamenei

Iran announced a three‑day state funeral for the late Supreme Leader Ali Jamenei, killed on 28 February, with ceremonies in Tehran, Qom and Mashhad. Officials expect 15‑20 million participants, the largest gathering in the country's history, and plan to inter the leader in the Imam Reza shrine in Mashhad. The funeral comes amid fragile cease‑fire talks with the United States and heightened regional tensions over the Strait of Hormuz.

At the same time, millions of Iranians took to the streets for the annual Gadir celebration, marching from Imam Hossein to Azadi Square and chanting loyalty to the newly appointed Supreme Leader Seyyed Mojtaba Jamenei. The rallies featured flags, portraits of the late leader, and slogans against the United States and Israel, while also expressing support for Hezbollah. Both events underscore the regime’s drive to demonstrate national unity and consolidate the new leadership during the ongoing conflict with the United States and Israel.
