Iran conflict spikes US military injuries and fuel expenses
The United States Department of Defense reported more than 400 injury incidents and 18 deaths among American forces during the early phase of the war with Iran (28 Feb – 8 Apr 2026). The Army accounted for the largest share of injuries, with over 270 cases.
Economic analyses from the Watson School at Brown University show that the war has added roughly US$ 76.5 billion to American fuel expenditures. Gasoline prices rose about 37.4 % (from $2.982 to $4.98 per gallon) and diesel prices jumped 45.5 % (from $3.670 to $5.339 per gallon), raising the average household’s fuel bill by $584.19.
Wall Street banks have recorded record earnings linked to the conflict. Five major U.S. banks posted a combined quarterly profit of $49 billion on 7 July 2026, with JPMorgan alone contributing nearly half. JPMorgan’s Q2 2026 profit reached a historic $21.2 billion, boosted by a $4.6 billion gain on its Visa stake and a $1 billion gain on other holdings.
State-level oil revenues have also surged. New Mexico, the second‑largest crude producer in the United States, is earning more than $240 million per month from higher oil prices, contributing to a state fund that has grown to about $75 billion since the war began.
