Iran warns UAE against relying on US and Israeli security
Ali Akbar Velayati, advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader, has issued a warning to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), stating that nations relying on Washington and Tel Aviv for security will eventually face domestic and foreign policy instability.
Velayati reiterated Iran’s sovereignty over the three disputed islands in the Persian Gulf—Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa—asserting that geography cannot be altered by mere statements. This follows recent claims made by the UAE at the United Nations General Assembly, where Emirati officials called for a peaceful resolution through direct negotiations or the International Court of Justice.
Furthermore, Velayati criticized the UAE for what he termed contradictory behavior, noting that the UAE advocates for Arab rights and Islamic solidarity shortly after hosting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Abu Dhabi. He described such security arrangements as ‘imported security,’ noting that while external guests eventually leave, neighboring countries remain.
