Iran warns U.S. aggression undermines global nuclear security

Mohsen Rezaei, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, has accused U.S. President Donald Trump of undermining global nuclear security. Rezaei stated that U.S. military aggression against the Islamic Republic has increased the global desire to acquire nuclear weapons.

According to Rezaei, the perceived ineffectiveness of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) in preventing U.S. attacks has signaled to other nations that international safeguards may not guarantee protection. He remarked, “Trump has created nuclear insecurity instead of nuclear security.”

Rezaei defended Iran’s nuclear record, noting that Tehran has complied with international safeguards, remained a member of the NPT, and previously accepted the terms of the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). He suggested that the current climate leads nations to question the utility of international oversight if military strikes can still occur.
