Iranian-Americans file federal lawsuit against Donald Trump over Iran military actions
A group of Iranian-American families has filed a lawsuit in U.S. federal court against President Donald Trump, challenging the legality of ongoing military actions and the maritime blockade against Iran. Attorneys Alan Morrison and Bruce Fein argue that the administration is bypassing the Constitution’s war powers clause by using terms like “military operations” or “excursions” instead of declaring war, thereby avoiding the requirement for Congressional authorization.
The plaintiffs, whose families have been killed, injured, or displaced by U.S. actions in Iran, are seeking a judicial ruling that the current hostilities lack legal authorization. They contend that the President cannot unilaterally initiate or sustain a war without a formal mandate from Congress.
Separately, President Trump has stated his readiness for direct negotiations with Iran and claimed that U.S. actions are preventing a “worst possible disaster.” He further asserted that the U.S. has gained control over the Strait of Hormuz and has successfully neutralized Iranian radar and air defense systems, despite claims from officials like JD Vance that there is no definitive evidence linking Iran to certain recent aviation incidents.
