Iranian boxer Poune Akhondtabar banned for three years

Iranian boxer Poune (Tina) Akhondtabar has received a three-year ban following a positive doping test. The International Testing Agency (ITA), acting on behalf of the International Boxing Association (IBA), announced that a sample collected on December 6, 2024, during the IBA Champions Night in Dubai, contained the prohibited substance clenbuterol.

Akhondtabar did not request a B-sample analysis and accepted the violation. Due to the early admission of the offense, her suspension was reduced by one year. The ban is set to run from February 20, 2025, to February 19, 2028.

As a result of the ruling, all of her results, medals, points, and prizes from the Dubai 2024 competitions, as well as individual results dating back to the sample collection date, have been disqualified. The decision is subject to appeal at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
