Iranian chief negotiator Ghalibaf says US sanctions lift oil prices to triple digits
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Iran’s chief negotiator and speaker of parliament, argued that recent U.S. attempts to punish Iran have backfired by driving oil prices into triple‑digit levels. Posting on X, he said: “They wanted to punish Iran. Punished themselves with triple‑digit oil instead. 10/10 strategy.”
He linked the price surge to heightened tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical channel for global crude shipments. Brent crude has been trading between $76 and $86 per barrel, reflecting market sensitivity to the geopolitical friction. Ghalibaf’s comments underscore the complex interplay between sanctions policy and global energy markets, and he warned that further U.S.–Iran developments could continue to influence oil prices.
