Iranian economic officials address liquidity trends and development needs
Economic officials in Iran are addressing the country's financial stability and the need for structural development. Abdolnaser Hemmati, Governor of the Central Bank of Iran, dismissed claims from the U.S. Treasury regarding the imminent collapse of the Iranian economy and excessive money printing. Hemmati cited data showing that 12-month liquidity growth decreased from 56.4% in June to 51.6% in September, noting that Central Bank interventions have helped stabilize exchange rates.
Separately, Ali Shariati-Moghaddam, head of the Knowledge-Based, Digital Economy, and Artificial Intelligence Commission at the Razavi Khorasan Chamber of Commerce, emphasized the necessity of integrating Iran into global value chains. He noted that while traditional exports like pistachios and saffron have established markets, exporting technology-driven products remains difficult due to a lack of synergy between universities and industry. Shariati-Moghaddam argued that moving away from a command-based, state-led economy toward a more risk-tolerant digital economy is essential for long-term growth.
