Iranian films featured at Venice International Film Festival

Iranian filmmakers are represented at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival with new works exploring social and personal struggles.

Ali Asgari’s sixth feature film, ‘Un po’ di luce’ (Kami nour), premiered in competition at the festival. Produced by Italy’s Zoe Films and distributed by Teodora Film, the film was shot under difficult conditions amid the threat of bombings. The story follows an Iranian doctor who, after being arrested and losing his clinic, contemplates suicide before finding reconciliation through the compassion of his family.

In the Orizzonti section, Mohsen Gharaei’s film ‘Moragheb - Falling House’ depicts a family on the outskirts of Tehran facing imminent eviction due to highway construction. The drama centers on a prison guard facing corruption investigations and the domestic tension caused by his daughter’s decision to move to Turkey to become a model. The film serves as a critique of patriarchal structures and social stagnation.
