Iran FM Abbas Araghchi urges Muslim unity after Mecca defense pact

Iran’s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, posted on X that Iran’s armed forces have shown “readiness, capability and might against the most expensive army in the world.” He called on Muslim nations to unite, rely on their own strength and reject “malicious external forces.” The statement was made hours after Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Pakistan signed a joint defence agreement in Mecca, creating a collective‑defence framework that treats an attack on any signatory as an attack on all. Araghchi framed the pact as a response to growing U.S. and Israeli pressure in the region and urged the broader Muslim world to coordinate security efforts and reduce dependence on external powers.
