Abbas Araghchi arrives in New York for UN General Assembly

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has arrived in New York to lead the country's diplomatic delegation at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. Araghchi, the highest-ranking Iranian official to enter US territory since the outbreak of conflict in late February, held a telephone conversation with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres upon arrival to discuss the high-level week's agenda.

Araghchi stated that the mission's primary goal is to defend the rights and interests of the Iranian people on an international stage. He noted that the delegation intends to use the UN forum to address issues following recent military conflicts involving the US and Israel. Additionally, Iran has reportedly submitted terms through Qatar regarding the restoration of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.

While the US approved the delegation's entry, it imposed strict travel restrictions, including a ban on the purchase of luxury goods. Furthermore, reports indicate that the United States denied visas to the communication team of President Masoud Pezeshkian, who is scheduled to address the General Assembly on Wednesday.
