Iranian hackers target UK power generator

Iranian-affiliated hackers successfully targeted a UK power generator, forcing it to shut down for four days. While the specific facility has not been named for security reasons, reports indicate it was a “small-scale energy generator.”

The attack did not impact the wider British power grid or the general electricity supply to the population. The incident was reportedly reported to the National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC), part of GCHQ.

This event follows warnings from NCSC head Dr. Richard Horne regarding hostile state actors, including Iran, Russia, and China, targeting significant British infrastructure. In response to such threats, the UK government is working on a national AI cyber shield designed to detect threats to critical infrastructure, airlines, and telecommunications firms.
