Iranian labor leaders propose 50% wage hike to combat inflation

Ali Azarbayjani, head of the Coordination Center of Islamic Labor Councils in West Azerbaijan, has called for a 50 percent increase in worker wages during the second half of the year to address a significant gap between earnings and living costs.

Azarbayjani reported that while most workers earn between 20 and 40 million tomans, the monthly cost of living for a family of four has reached approximately 90 million tomans. He noted that inflation, rising prices for essential goods like meat, poultry, oil, and rice, and economic pressures such as sanctions have severely eroded purchasing power.

He urged the Supreme Labor Council to hold a specialized meeting with labor representatives to address these wage lags. Additionally, he called upon the Social Commission of the Parliament to coordinate with the government to ensure a fair adjustment that balances the needs of workers and employees.
