Iranian labor officials demand urgent wage reviews amid inflation

Labor representatives in Iran are criticizing the Supreme Labor Council and the Ministry of Cooperatives, Labour, and Social Welfare for failing to address the rapid decline in workers' purchasing power. Eid Ali Karimi, the executive secretary of the House of Worker in Qazvin province, stated that the current base wage of 16 million tomans is insufficient to cover even a single week of living expenses.

Karimi highlighted that despite previous promises to hold quarterly meetings to review wages in relation to inflation, no significant action has been taken. He argued that due to the uncontrolled rise in inflation and the exchange rate—with the dollar approaching 220,000 tomans—wage reviews should occur weekly rather than quarterly to prevent a total collapse of worker livelihoods. He also noted a lack of market oversight, which has allowed prices to rise without regulation.
