Iranian labor representative calls for wage review

Mohsen Baqeri, the labor group representative on Iran’s Supreme Labor Council, has stated that government support measures, such as subsidies and food coupons, cannot compensate for the declining purchasing power of workers.

Baqeri emphasized that while subsidies may alleviate some pressure on food costs, they do not address the fundamental gap between current wages and the actual cost of living. He argued that support payments are distinct from legal wages and should not be used as a substitute for determining fair compensation based on inflation and household living expenses.

He called on the Supreme Labor Council to reconsider wage structures for the upcoming year, noting that legal criteria for minimum wage must account for official inflation rates and the real economic conditions facing workers.
