Iranian Leaders Call US‑Iran Agreement the Future Hub of Tehran's Foreign Policy

In June, the United States and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding that Iranian officials say will shape Tehran's external relations. President Mesud Pezeşkiyan declared the pact “the weight centre of our future foreign relations” and urged that the adversary be forced to abide by what was signed. Parliamentary Speaker Muhammed Bakır Kalibaf echoed the sentiment, describing the agreement as a product of the collective wisdom of the Islamic Consultative Assembly and a guarantee of security for Iran, the region and its allies.

Both sides have since accused each other of violations. Washington has charged Iran with attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz and illegal toll collection, while Tehran argues that U.S. alternative routing in the strait breaches the agreement’s terms.
