Iranian MP challenges President's competence in parliamentary meeting

During a consultative meeting with Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Representative Hamid Resai raised the issue of the President's lack of competence. Resai suggested that the President's powers should be transferred to an appointed First Vice President, a proposal that reportedly faced backlash from most members of Parliament and the Speaker himself.

Ghalibaf emphasized the necessity of maintaining national unity and cohesion, criticizing efforts to create political polarization. He noted that attacks on the President, the judiciary, the military, and the Supreme National Security Council only serve to weaken the country during a period of instability.

Additionally, Ghalibaf addressed the status of parliamentary sessions, stating that he has been seeking authorization from the Supreme National Security Council to hold open sessions since May, but has yet to receive a response. Consequently, the Parliament continues to hold a mix of in-person and virtual sessions to ensure the legislative process remains uninterrupted.
