Iranian Parliament Praises National Football Team After 2026 World Cup Exit
The Cultural Commission of Iran’s Parliament met with Sports Minister Ahmad Danialmali, Football Federation head Mehdi Taj, national team coach Amir Ghalenoei and the team’s media manager to review the squad’s showing at the 2026 World Cup. Members highlighted the team’s tactical preparation, resilience and cultural representation, noting that Iran did not lose any match – drawing 2‑2 with New Zealand, 0‑0 with Belgium and 1‑1 with Egypt – and finished third in Group G with three points. Despite the draws, Iran was eliminated after other group results favored Austria and Algeria.
Parliamentarians praised the coaching staff’s planning and the players’ “spirit of fighting” and called for a long‑term, youth‑focused strategy to improve future World Cup campaigns, emphasizing the need for “transformational” reforms in the federation.
